Teflon Day - April 6

On April 6, 1938, Dr. Roy Plankt accidentally invented the Teflon compound.

It happened while he was working in a lab in New Jersey, when he happened to discover with his assistant the compound polytetrafluoroethylene called Teflon for short. Teflon is a slippery material that is often used to coat Teflon pans. It prevents dirt from sticking to the pan even when heated.

The first Teflon-coated pan was marketed in the United States in 1961.

Dr. Plankt was added to the Inventors' Hall of Fame in 1985.

In the 1980s the word Teflon also became a cultural concept when US President Ronald Reagan was called "the president of Teflon", the one that nothing bad will stick to and has the ability to come out of scandals without a single stain.

Today Teflon can be found everywhere, in metal and fabric coatings, in industry, in space, and even in clothing and medicines and of course, in almost every kitchen.

Crayola Crayon Day - March 31

Today is the special day of Crayola Crayon (or oil pastel colors), the colors that come in so many shades, with a special scent of oil that just makes you want to paint!

You can make lots of artwork with panda colors. The usual use for them is painting, but you can also make candles out of them, or melt them and create new and colorful shapes in molds, melt them and decorate bottles, jars and bulbs with them. You can even make lipgloss out of them!

Oil pastel colors were invented in Japan in the 19th century. They were composed of wax, chalk and pigment. After succeeding there they came to Europe, where they were first distributed by the Dutch company Talens, under the Western brand Panda (hence their name).

In the United States, the largest company that distributes panda paints is Criola, which was founded in 1885. Criola produces oil pastel paints as well as chalks, colored pencils, markers and more.
