World Graphic Design Day - April 27

World Graphics Day, also known as World Graphic Design Day, is held every year on April 27, the founding day of the International Graphic Design Associations Council (Icograda) on this date in 1963. The purpose of World Graphics Day is to introduce people to the world of graphic design and its role in the world.

What would have happened if there was no graphic design? Imagine the world for a moment without this media - there will be serious chaos, right? It will be impossible to identify products wrapped in supermarkets, there will be confusion at train stations and airports, it will be impossible to get around on the roads, the internet will only be a pile of black letters on a white screen and there will be no games and Instagram and Facebook ...

Graphic design includes the design of printed texts, consumer product packaging, posters, advertisements, signs, layout, website design, TV interfaces, illustration, video, animation and more and more .... It shapes our world and influences our understandings, opinions, actions and decisions. Design determines the impact of information, whether it is through color, shape or style, from the smallest street sign and the websites we browse to the products we purchase or the books we read.

Graphic design is a branch of visual communication. Design is a creative process that usually involves the client and the designer, and is ultimately executed by the performer. The goal of graphic design is to convey a specific message to a target audience with the help of a combination of texts and images.

There are different methods of creating a combination of words, symbols and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. The graphic designer can use a combination of typography, visual art and page layout techniques to produce a balanced, focused and symmetrical end result.

On World Graphics Day, graphic designers around the world gather to celebrate in a variety of ways and hold a global dialogue and collaboration aimed at advancing the mission and vision of the Icograda organization. Today, the Icograda network spans 67 countries and regions, connecting media designers around the world who work collectively to advance the profession.

How to celebrate World Graphic Design Day?

Look around you and see how everything in the world, created by humans, is shaped in some graphic way. When you surf the Internet, pay attention to the small and big details: What is the font that the site uses? What are the colors, buttons, structure of the site? Look at the logos of brands you buy, behind every such thing stands someone, one or more, who has devoted deep thought to bringing it to its appearance. Everywhere you look you will see something that behind it is brainstorming, that someone has designed and devoted a lot of thought to and we usually take for granted. Today is the day to pay attention to the process of thought, imagination and execution behind things.

Try designing a logo or business card yourself. Maybe you want to study graphic design? It is without a doubt one of the most creative and required professions in the world and without it the world would be dull, monotonous and impossible to navigate. You can design an ad, poster or card and upload it to social networks with the hashtag #worldgraphicsday

Radio Day - February 13

Once when we wanted to hear news or music, we would settle for the humble radio that would update us on what was happening in the world once an hour.
When we wanted to hear a song we like, without buying the whole record, we would record it from the radio (and no one said it was illegal). We would sit with our finger on the record button, and as soon as the song started we would quickly press it and wait with our finger on the pause button. How annoying were the announcers who had to speak in the background of the beginning of the song or enter at the end ...

UNESCO announced in 2011 a radio day to be held on February 13 every year, to celebrate the importance of radio in our lives. The proposal to hold this day was raised by Spain. Every second and can also download and listen to unlimited songs, but there are still places in the world for which radio is a technological miracle. There are entire populations in the world that do not have access to modern information technologies. Poor villages in Africa gather around the only radio around every night Children in remote agricultural communities in Australia attend school through radio.

Radio is a major tool in our lives. In Israel, there are about 20 radio stations that broadcast various content such as different types of music, current affairs programs, counseling and more, stations for different populations such as immigrants from Russia, religious, Arabs and more. You can also hear through the internet many radio stations from around the world.

By the way, if you thought you did not need a home radio and that this device has already passed from the world, know that in an emergency, such as a war or a major earthquake, you need to equip a radio transistor with batteries, in case the electricity and internet do not work. That's why you should have a radio at home for any trouble that may come.
So what's your favorite radio station? What do you hear when you travel or at home?

Internet Day - October 29

Could you live one day without the Internet? Funny that we once lived without him and got along very well (at least we believed we would get along) and today we are not able to get along without him even one day. We need the internet for work, school, getting along on the roads, communicating with each other, playing and even for falling in love. There are countless things we owe the internet for!

The internet is everywhere. In computers, in smart cameras that follow us, in our TV, in phones and tablets and even in smart watches.

Internet Day is meant to celebrate the peak of computing and communication technology that has burst into our lives in the last decades of the last century and has since evolved until we became addicted.

The first letters ever transmitted across the Internet, which included only two computers, were "L" and "O". This is all the media they managed to transfer before the network crashed, and they had to reboot it to fix it. It happened on October 29, 1969 when Leonard Kleinrock of the University of California at Los Angeles and Charlie Klein of Stanford University tried to broadcast the word LOGIN.

The term Internet is an abbreviation of the term "Interconnected Networks", which describes a group of computer networks connected to each other.

Initially, the Internet was an initiative of the US Department of Defense. But due to international pressure, the United States was forced in the early 1990s to relinquish its control of the Internet. Today the Internet is run primarily by a number of international bodies made up of representatives from all over the world including academics, government, commerce and private citizens.

Each state can apply its laws to bodies and individuals operating in it online. Some countries like China, Syria and Iran are using this ability to restrict their citizens' access to the network.

In North Korea the Internet is allowed to be used only with special permission, and is used mainly for government purposes and by foreigners. As you can imagine, very few people are allowed to use the World Wide Web.

Most people and institutions use online services that are provided for free through an intranet (a private computer communications network, used for the internal activities of an organization that operates on Internet technology, to which access is only allowed within users within the organization) known as Kwangmyong.

How to celebrate Internet Day?

Keep using the internet as you like and owe, just dedicate some thoughts to the contribution it has made to our lives and to the one that once did not exist. Do not take the expensive internet for granted and whenever you get upset that you do not have Wi-Fi reception or the internet is slow, remember that it once was not at all. We would communicate with each other only through talking on the phone or face to face, sending letters in the mail that would arrive after weeks and developing our photos in print and arranging in an album.
