East meets West - April 25th

East Meets West Day is celebrated annually on April 25 in the United States. This day, also known as "Elbe Day" marks the event that happened on that date in 1945, when Soviet and American forces met on the Elbe River, near Torgau, in northwestern Saxony, Germany, marking an important step towards The end of World War II in Europe.
The Soviets advanced from the East and the Americans from the West, causing the two powers to effectively cut Germany in two.
The next day, April 26, 1945, the commanders of the 69th Infantry Brigade of the First Army (USA) and the 58th Rifle Guards of the Fifth Army Guards (Soviet Union) met in Turgau, southwest of Berlin. Make arrangements and shake hands. In May 1945, Germany surrendered.

Euro Day - January 1

January 1 is Euro Day, the currency used in 19 European countries, out of the 28 EU member states.
On December 16, 1999, the name "Euro" was officially adopted for the single currency, and it began to exist on January 1, 1999.
For more than 30 years, European leaders have planned to issue one currency to the entire continent. After long and difficult negotiations, and much opposition from Britain (which to this day uses its own currency, the Pound Sterling), the currency was finally born in 1999 and is currently used by some 343 million Europeans in Austria, Estonia, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece , Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, Finland, France and Cyprus.

The name of the currency is adapted in each country to the pronunciation of the word Europe in the language used. In Germany, for example, the continent is called "Europa" and therefore the currency is called "Euro". In Italian and Spanish they also say "Europa" and the currency is called "Euro". In Russian they say Yevropa and the currency is called Yevro. In English, the currency is called "Euro" after the continent "Europe".

How to celebrate Euro Day?
Today is a perfect day to learn about the currency, which in the future will be used by more countries. One can also learn about the culture of the European countries that use it and their previous currencies.

Asteroid Day - June 30th

International Asteroid Day is a day announced at two simultaneous press conferences in London and San Francisco on December 3, 2014, in memory of the Tunguska event that took place in the Eastern Siberian Taiga on June 30, 1908.
As of 2016 the United Nations has now officially recognized it.

An asteroid is a small body in the solar system that is in orbit around the sun.
The Tunguska event was a violent explosion near the Tunguska River, in the heart of the Taiga Forest in Siberia, on the morning of June 30, 1908. The accepted theory is that the explosion was caused by a meteorite (which is part of an asteroid) on Earth. The blast caused enormous damage to nature, but because it happened far from a settlement, no people were injured.
At the center of the explosion, all the trees were found lying in the ground in a circular shape, facing out of the center, within a radius of about 15 to 30 km. All the flora and fauna in that range were destroyed.

Eyewitnesses who watched the event from a distance told of a huge fireball that emerged from the sky accompanied by strong, hot winds that knocked people to the ground. After the explosion, seismic waves were felt that shook the houses similar to an earthquake. The explosion was so powerful that it could be seen from a distance of 800 km.
On February 15, 2013, a meteor exploded, also in Russia. The incident was similar to an explosion in Tunguska, but the meteor exploded in the air and did not hit the earth.
Asteroid Day is designed to raise awareness for asteroids and what can be done to protect the Earth from them.

There are many programs to eradicate the danger from asteroids. In California, USA, for example, there is a non-profit organization called the B612 Foundation, which aims to develop a space mission in which a spacecraft will land on a small asteroid, explore its surface and install a rocket engine that will significantly change its trajectory.
There are other asteroid detection programs that will help monitor each of them and alert them as they approach Earth.
