National Hugging Day- 21 January

National hug Day is an annual event created by   Kevin Zaborney from United States. It is not an official holiday and it started in the US alone, but there are reports that it celebrated on the same day in many countries.
Hugs Day celebrated the first time on January 21, 1986, in the city Clio, Michigan, USA. The idea of this day is to encourage everyone to embrace their family and friends more often. Zaborney warns to ask first if they want to embrace if you are not sure.
Whether you hug a family member, a friend or a stranger, mental health benefits and physical are identical.

Zaborney chose the date January 21, because it falls between Christmas, New Year's and Valentine, and people usually have depressed mood between holidays.
He wanted to encourage the American society that "ashamed to show emotions in public" and hoped that one embraces day will change that. A 2003 study done by a research institute Medical School at the University of Miami found that American couples spend only a one-third time in body contact than French couples spend.

Tin Can Day - January 19

A tin can is a box in which food is stored in an airtight manner without contaminating microenzymes.
We all sometimes buy cans of pickles, olives, tuna or beans and store them in the pantry for hours when needed. Canned food can hold for a long time and is therefore also considered an "emergency" food.

Who Invented the Tin Can?
The canned food preservation process is thought to have been created by the Frenchman Philippe de Girard, and the idea was passed on to the British merchant Peter Durand who served as an agent to register Girard's idea as a patent in 1810.
Girard's idea of preservation was based on an attempt to preserve food in glass containers the year before, by the French confectioner Nicolas Francois Aper, for Napoleon's army.
In 1812 Durand sold his patent to two Englishmen, Brian Donkin and John Hall, who processed the process and product, and set up the world's first commercial cannery in Southark Park, London. In 1813 they produced cans for the British Royal Navy. In 1820, the cans were used for gunpowder, seeds, and turpentine.
The early cans were sealed by soldering with a lead alloy and tin, which could have led to lead poisoning. In 1845, Sir John Franklin's expedition from Britain to the North Pole suffered from severe lead poisoning and was thought to be the result of eating canned food. A more recent study found that the lead poisoning was actually caused by the water pipes on the expedition's ships.
The early cans were sealed by soldering with a lead alloy and tin, which could have led to lead poisoning.

The cans are made of non-perishable metal and therefore cause ecological damage to the earth. It is recommended to recycle them and not throw them in the trash.
In honor of Tin Can Day, you can make creations from cans such as beautiful flower pots, flower vases, tools for storing stationery, a savings account, wind chimes, a bride and groom's car decoration and more.

Thesaurus Day - January 18

A thesaurus is a huge vocabulary of synonyms arranged in alphabetical order.
The difference between a dictionary and a thesaurus is that the dictionary gives definitions of words in the same language or gives a translation of the word into another language, whereas the thesaurus gives synonyms, i.e. different words with the same meaning. The thesaurus can be used by writers, poets, translators and anyone who wants to use language rich in the texts he writes.

In the past, the thesaurus was a book whose words were arranged in a long list. Today there is already vocabulary software on your computer.
The day of the thesaurus was set for January 18 because it was the birthday of Peter Mark Roger who was born in 1779, and he is the man who collected and published the first thesaurus called "the thesaurus of Roger". He began working on it in 1805 and published it in 1852. The book of course was handwritten.
The name Thesaurus comes from the Greek θησαυρός and means treasure.

Popeye the sailor man Day - January 17

If you were a child in the 1970s, you probably know Popeye and your mother probably forced you to eat spinach because of it.
Popeye is a comic book character first published on January 17, 1929, by creator Elsie Seeger.
Popeye is a sailor who fights his enemy Bluto to save his beloved Olive. When he gets into trouble he opens a can of spinach, eats the software and gets tremendous strength to fight it.
In the 1960s, Popeye received his own television series. She had a catchy and annoying song called "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man" that all the kids knew and loved to sing.

Popeye began his career as a minor and secondary character in the Thimble Theater cigar comic. His character gained popularity and the place she got in it grew until the name of the comic was changed to Popeye The Sailor man.

Elsie Sigar, the creator of Popeye, grew up in the town of Chester in Missouri, USA. The town's residents claim that the characters in the comics were inspired by the town's residents. Today the town has a Popeye Museum and a collection of spinach cans.
The figure of Olive Oil, Popeye's lover, is based, according to Chester residents, on the figure of Dora Pascal, a particularly thin and tall woman who would wear a headscarf around her neck. She had a shop she would rarely go out of.
Popeye's character is said to have been inspired by a man named Frank "Rocky" Fiegel, who had one eye, smoked a pipe and liked to get into fights in which he usually won.
Cigar died at the age of 44, in 1938. He contributed much to the reputation of the spinach but it turns out that the much appreciated spinach was a little too much than he deserved. The reference to spinach as a fortifying food came following the publication of a study in which there was an error in printing the decimal point in the amount of iron it contains, so that it was attributed 10 times higher than the actual amount. Although the mistake was discovered, the spinach's respectable place has been preserved and to this day it is attributed to the properties of a super-super vegetable.

Nothing Day- January 16

The nothing day has been commemorated since 1973. The idea of this day is literally not to do anything at all. In fact, there is no purpose or structure for the senseless celebration of this day.
The day of nothing was first proposed by the late Harold Coffin, a columnist for an American newspaper. He also set up an organization for nothing, registered in Capitol, California.
The Nothing Day is a satirical way of Coffin raising awareness that there are too many useless special days. As befitting, his organization still does not even have one meeting. The official celebrations of this day continued to stand as evidence of Coffin's ultimate failure.
So if on the day of nothing we do not actually celebrate anything, but still celebrate, we can say that we celebrate life itself. If you feel like it, you can have a party for no reason.
This day also raises some very interesting questions on the philosophical level. Can something really valuable come out of anything?
