The history of Tim Tam

Tim Tam was invented by Arnot's food technology director, Ian Norris. In 1958 he decided to go on a world tour to look for inspiration for new products. While driving he found the penguin biscuit in the UK which is a biscuit snack coated in milk chocolate and filled with chocolate cream. Norris decided to make the penguin biscuit something even tastier and so he invented the Tim Tam which is made from two biscuits.

Ross Arnott, owner of Arnott, loved horse racing. In 1958 he visited a horse race in Kentucky and decided that his company's new chocolate snack would be named after the winning horse and so it was.

How to celebrate Tim Tam Day?

The best way to celebrate Tim Tam Day is to buy a package and eliminate it on your own or with someone else. To eat the tam tam in the traditional way one has to bite both its ends and then use it as a drinking straw. According to tradition, you should also take a photo and upload the photos with the hashtag #TimTamDay.

Almond Day - February 16

February 16 is Almond Day, the fruit that grows on the almond tree that belongs to the rose family.
Did you know?
Eating 20 unroasted natural almonds a day as a snack between meals has been found to contribute to weight loss more than other snacks.
Almonds have a total of 7-9 calories and are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, calcium and good fats for the heart.
Almonds also help balance appetite and reduce the urge to eat sweets.
It is recommended to eat the almonds as a snack, during a "crisis" when the body really wants sweet. You should eat 10 almonds at each snack, a total of two meals.
The part of the almond that is eaten is the seed. It contains a substance called amygdalin, which breaks down and forms cyanide, a very dangerous poison. But do not worry, the cyanide is found in the bitter almonds. The sweet cultural varieties we eat do not contain amygdalin.

Hippo's day- 15 February

The name Hippo comes from Hippopotamus which is in Greek - Hippo is horse and this Potamus is River. The animal hippos are swimming in the rivers of Africa, so the question is why their name in Greek actually determined? Whatever the name, the 15th of February is a day of celebration in honor of Hippos and in this day you can go visit them at the zoo or safari, or solidarity, make a mud bath, open yawning mouth and big and boast your extra pounds if you have any.

Hippos are semi-aquatic mammals, with a large barrel-shaped body, short legs, short tail and huge head. They have greyish to muddy skin at the top of the body, and light pink skin at the bottom.

The largest populations of hippos are living in Zambia and Tanzania. Unfortunately, hippopotamuses are in constant danger and their population is dwindling because of their habitat damage and the hunters illegally killing them for their meat, skin and fangs.

Although hippopotamuses do not eat meat, they are considered the most dangerous and aggressive animals in Africa.

The hippo is the third largest land mammal in the world. Only the elephants and rhinos are larger terrestrial mammals.

Hippos are heavy, short-legged creatures and short legs, but they can easily get a human running. In short-distance running, they are able to reach 40 mph.

The hippopotamus is the rabbi, which means an animal fed on plants. He eats weeds at night and can eat about 35 pounds of grass in one night!

The female hippopotamus, giving birth every two years, usually one hippo. The pregnancy lasts 8 months. The litter occurs in the water and shortly afterwards, the mother and her baby join the herd of hippos to protect against predators such as alligators, lions and hyenas.

Because of the sheer size of the hippos, they have almost no enemies among the animals, and only when they are small puppies are they at risk of being predisposed by alligators.

The hippos in the wild live about 40 years. In captivity, they tend to live longer and may reach the age of 50.

Valentine's day- 14th February

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

No matter if we have to celebrate this day or not, on February 14th we are flooded with advertisements wherever possible, reminding us that it is best not to forget to buy gifts, flowers and chocolates, for our spouses, if we do not want to sleep in the living room tonight.
The source of Valentine's day
There are several versions of the origin of this holiday, but the most common version is the one that tells of the days of Emperor Claudius II, in 270 AD. The cruel Claudius forbade his men to marry during the war because he believed they were strong and able to fight better when they were single.

Bishop Valentine rallied against him and secretly married couples in love. He was apprehended and imprisoned and on February 14 executed. Before he died he wrote a letter from prison to his daughter and signed with the words "Yours, Valentine." Valentine has since become a symbol of lovers and the day of his execution for Valentine's Day.
In the Middle Ages the girls would celebrate Valentine’s Day by eating strange foods because that is how they believed they would dream at night about their future husband. There was also a tradition of passing a bowl with notes of names between the men and women and they would pull out a note and find out who would be their favorite. After the lottery, the name of the favorite would be embroidered on the sleeve.
But what is love? here are some beautiful quotes for Valentine's day

A little girl asks her older brother: what us love? The brother answers: love is when I know that every day you steal chocolate from my bag, but I keep putting it in the same place...

Love is when you can't experience anything without wishing the other person were there to see it, too.

Love means accept him with all the failures, stupid and ugly  things and yet to see

perfection in his imperfection.

Ferris Wheel Day - February 14th

Ferris wheel day is a day to go to an amusement park, no matter where, get on a Ferris wheel and take a spin between heaven and earth to celebrate the birthday of George Washington Jr., the American engineer who invented the first Ferris wheel in 1893.
In the 17th century there were playgrounds where passengers sat inside wooden seats attached to a large ring-shaped fixture and a powerful man would turn them around. The first facilities existed in Bulgaria and Turkey.

The first modern Ferris wheel was designed for the United States' World's Colombian Exhibition in Chicago, Illinois, in 1893. It was to compete with the Eiffel Tower, built for the 1889 Paris Exhibition.
The designer of the wheel was George Washington Gail Paris Jr. from Gilesburg, Illinois, and the wheel was named in English - Ferris Wheel.
The first modern Ferris wheel was really huge. It weighed about 2000 tons and was powered by two steam engines that each had a power of 1,000 horsepower. The wheel had 36 passenger compartments, each the size of a bus!
Each cabin could carry 60 passengers (20 seated and 40 standing), meaning a total of 2,160 passengers could ride in a wheel.
The Ferris wheel was 26 stories high and was one of the tallest buildings in the world. It took 20 minutes and cost half a dollar.
Today there are giant wheels in almost every amusement park.
The tallest Ferris wheel in the world, High Roller, is located in Las Vegas and is 167 meters high. In second place is the Singapore Flair wheel, which rises to a height of 165 meters and in third place is the star Nanchang (Chinese: 南昌之星) which is located in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi province in China and rises to a height of 160 meters.

Pet Theft Awareness Day- February 14th

Pet Theft Awareness Day was created by the organization Last Chance for Animals in 1988 to raise awareness of pet theft and teach the public how to keep their animals safe from unscrupulous thieves.

Pet theft is a scourge. Every day, unfortunately, a number of ads are posted on the social media of people who have lost their most precious of all, their beloved dog or cat. The pets that are usually stolen are dogs, but they can also be cats, parrots and any other animal.

Stealing a pet can happen in a matter of seconds. The thieves can pick them up from your yard or porch, if you tied them up outside the store unattended or they roamed freely on a walk in the park. Most pet thefts are not reported, so it is difficult to know how many dogs and cats are stolen each year, but according to the number of posts in the Facebook groups of lost dogs and cats, it can be seen that this is a large number.

Common Causes of Pet Theft (Warning: Unpleasant Content)

Reward: One of the most common reasons for pet theft is when dogs are stolen for sale for profit. Stolen dogs are usually sold to innocent new owners, or to pirate breeders who breed and breed in their backyard purebred dogs whose offspring can be sold. Dogs raised by backyard breeders or so-called "puppy grinders" do not receive proper veterinary care and are often forced to live in appalling living conditions.

Bait or fighting in dog fights: Another shocking phenomenon is to use dogs in fights between them when people gamble money on the dogs. Sometimes small dogs and cats are stolen to serve as bait for dogs to fight among themselves.

How to protect your pets from theft?

Never underestimate. Just as you will never leave a baby or small child unattended, so too with your dog or cat. Always keep them at home, especially when you are not around. Do not leave your animals unattended in the yard. It only takes thieves a minute to steal them away. Don't leave your dog in the car alone.

Take care to identify your pets: Implant a chip at a veterinarian and wear them a collar that has a tag with your name and phone in case the dog or cat manages to escape and gets into the hands of someone who wants to help.

Make sure your pets are spayed or neutered; Neutered and spayed animals are less likely to move away from home to roam and be at risk of extinction.

Make sure you have up-to-date photos of your pets, just in case you need to find them. Make sure their licenses are valid.

Be aware of strangers in your area and report anything unusual, such as suspicious neighborhood activities or a wave of missing pets, to local police and animal control.

What to do if your pet is missing?

Call the police; If your pet has been stolen, ask to file a report to have a record of the theft. Animal theft is illegal and a complaint can be lodged with the police.

Post notices of pet disappearance wherever possible on social media. Add an up-to-date photo and every identifying detail like a collar, special spots, and a description of the dog's behavior toward strangers, so that if someone finds him, he can capture him for you and hold him until you get to pick him up.

Hang in your neighborhood and wherever the dog may reach "lost" ads with an up-to-date picture of your dog or cat along with your exact contact information.

Contact animal welfare organizations.

Be aware of scams! People may claim to have your pet and insist on a reward before handing it over to you. If a stranger calls and says he has found your pet, make sure he gives you a very detailed description of your pet and sends a picture of him.

One more thing - if you see a dog roaming free on the street, report it on social media for its owner to pick it up and keep it, or if you can, keep it until its owner arrives and explain to them how dangerous it is to let a dog roam the street alone when dog theft is so common.

World Marriage Day - The second Sunday in February

World Marriage Day is a day marked by the sponsorship of an American organization called the Worldwide Marriage Encounter, which is associated with the Catholic movement and aims to encourage and sanctify the institution of marriage.
The purpose of the wedding day is: "World Marriage Day respects the husband and wife as the basis of the family, the basic unit of society, and salutes the beauty of their loyalty, sacrifice and joy in the daily life of the married."

The idea to celebrate the marriage began in Baton Rouge, the capital of the state of Louisiana in the USA, when married couples encouraged the mayor, governor and bishop to declare Valentine's Day today "We believe in the anniversary". The event was very successful and the idea was presented and adopted by Other organizations that encourage marriage around the world.
In 1982, 43 U.S. governors announced the day and the festivities spread to U.S. military bases in foreign countries. In 1993 Pope John Paul II dedicated his greetings to World Anniversary and since then World Anniversary celebrations have continued to spread around the world.
