Kindergarten day - April 21

Kindergarten Day is a day celebrated in the United States with the goal of encouraging and appreciating kindergarten teachers who care for children with dedication.
The date was chosen in memory of Friedrich Ferbel, a German educator who founded the first kindergarten in 1837.
Perbel was orphaned from his mother when he was a small child, and although he grew up without a mother figure and also with a father who was estranged from him (and perhaps precisely because of this), he chose after his studies to focus on early childhood education problems. He was the first to create the concept of "kindergarten" and spread his teachings that said that children deserve a special education appropriate to their age. Probel's thought was that the importance of the child's activity in learning should be recognized. In his first kindergarten, activities included singing, dancing, gardening and self-directed play.

The German government did not approve of liberal reforms and amendments, and saw the establishment of its kindergarten as an act of heresy, so it closed it.
Perbel also invented children's play cubes called "Perbel cubes", cubes in different geometric shapes from which three-dimensional shapes can be assembled.

Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day - April 21st

Bulldogs Are Beautiful Day is a special day dedicated to the breed of dog that many people love to raise as a pet.

What is special about bulldogs is mainly the wrinkled appearance of their face. They have a short, flat face with lots of folded fur and that is what makes them such sweet and popular.

The history of the Bulldogs

The history of the English Bulldog is not so pleasant. Originally the breed was cultivated to help bullfighters in the 15th century for centuries. Hence the name of the Bulldogs - Bull+dog. The bulldog was used as bait for bulls because they thought that stimulating the bulls before slaughter would soften their meat. This practice also became a brutal popular sport in which bulls were bullied in bulldogs until the dogs and / or bulls were severely injured or killed.

In those years, bulldog breeders would encourage their aggression to brutally fight bulls. The average weight of a bulldog would reach 80 pounds so they would be strong and able to overcome a bull. Happily, the use of dogs as bait was outlawed in 1835. Since then, the bulldog's fighting ability has disappeared and they have become comfortable, loyal and gentle dogs. Their average weight today ranges from 50 to 55 pounds.

The modern bulldog is gentle, kind and has a stable temperament. They may be short, but capable of great power and are especially loyal and brave when it comes to their human friends, especially children. They can be great watch dogs. Their muscular and tense appearance can be intimidating and even though they are usually lazy, when provoked they are not afraid to show presence.

In England, the Bulldog accompanies John Bull, a fictional figure who symbolizes the country first painted in 1712.

In the U.S. Bulldogs are ranked fourth as the most popular dog breed. The Bulldog is also a beloved mascot used in sports teams, the U.S. Marine Corps, Yale University and more.

The French Bulldog is a small breed of English Bulldog originally developed in France. Among the theories about the development of the breed there is a belief that in the 19th century, women from England took small bulldogs with them when looking for work in France in weaving. In the places where they settled, the Bulldogs became popular as loyal rat catchers and they began to reproduce. The reason they were smaller is probably a genetic defect that actually appealed to people and caused them to reproduce.

How to celebrate Bulldogs are beautiful day?

On this special day, bulldog beauty pageants take place in many places. Bulldog owners pamper them with their favorite snacks and delicious stews. There are those who buy them cute costumes and toys. Other ways to celebrate Bulldogs are beautiful are to volunteer at a pet shelter, go for a walk with your bulldog in the park, it is advisable to visit a dog corner where he can play with other dogs. The bulldog is considered a relatively lazy dog, so a 15 minute walk will suffice for him. If you take him to the dog park, he will probably prefer to lie down and look at the other dogs. But not bad, he's still going to have fun.

And do not forget - if you have a bulldog, today is the day to take pictures of him and upload to social networks.

Cannabis Day - April 20

April 20 is Cannabis Day in the US, a holiday for US cannabis smokers that has become a holiday around the world as well.
The date was chosen because April 20 was written as: 4/20 and the number 420 has a strong symbolism in the cannabis culture.

Why was the number 420 chosen?
Steven Hager, editor of High Times Magazine, discovered after an in-depth investigation that the phrase "420" was born in 1971 by a group of students at San Raphael University in California, who called themselves "The Waldos." The group would meet every day after everyone graduated at the same time (4:20) near the statue of Louis Pasteur and smoking marijuana. Over time, the phrase "420" (Four Twentie) became a code name for them as cannabis.
Over time, the narrator also became popular with other members and acquaintances of the Waldos, including members of the band Grateful Dead who distributed it among their fans. Hence the number spread among all cannabis consumers in the US and the phrases “it's time for a 4:20 break” or “it's always 4:20” have become useful and common phrases.

To this day the number 420 is used as a code word for marijuana and many do not know the reason. Various speculations have developed about the cause but they are not true:
Some say 420 is a penal code clause for marijuana use in California. This is not true. Section 420 of the California Penal Code deals with the blocking of entry into public lands.
However, on January 1, 2004, the Governor of California signed the State Senate Act No. 420, which regulates the use of marijuana for medical purposes. This bill came years after the number '420' was linked to marijuana and indeed the number was probably chosen because of the existing connection to pop culture.
Some say the number of chemical compounds in marijuana is 420. This is also not true. The number of chemical compounds in marijuana is 315, according to people in the High Times magazine.
There are more and more false assumptions such as that April 20 is the best time to plant marijuana (not true, there is no special time that is good for this), or that the date of birth of Jim Morrison and Janice Joplin is April 20 (no True, Jim Morrison was born on December 8 and Janice Joplin was born on October 4) ...

How do you celebrate Cannabis Day?
In the United States, on April 20, processions, demonstrations, performances and parties are held calling for a change in drug policy and indictment. The highlight of the day comes at exactly 4:20 p.m. , Everyone counts backwards (as at New Year's Eve parties) from 10 to 1 and lights the joints together when the clock shows that it is 16:20.
Police in most places in the world treat celebrants patiently and rarely make arrests.

Chinese Language Day - April 20

Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world and in its honor a special official day was declared by the UN.
This day is meant to celebrate the history of language and its overall contribution to the world.
April 20 was chosen to "cherish Cangjie, a mythical figure who allegedly invented the Chinese letters about 5,000 years ago."
Cangjie was according to legend the official historian of the Yellow Emperor and had four eyes. Legend has it that when Cangjie invented the Chinese characters, it rained millet and the gods and spirits cried. Around April 20 begins the Guyu period (Chinese: 谷雨), which literally means "rain of millet", so it was decided that this would be the appropriate date to celebrate Chinese Language Day.
Chinese is the language spoken in the countries of Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Singapore and in total is spoken by over 1,200,000,000 (billion and two hundred million) people.
Following the development of the Chinese economy and the global trade ties with China it is important that the wider world be more proficient in the Chinese language.

Garlic Day - April 19

Garlic Day is celebrated every year on April 19, in honor of its wonderful bulbs. One can be an avid fan of garlic, and on the other hand one can also not tolerate it and say it stinks. Garlic is used as a spice plant and the part that is used is the cloves in its tuber that are edible (proper or cooked). Garlic also has many medicinal properties and is also attributed spiritual qualities such as protection against evil spirits and bad luck.

The garlic originated more than 5,000 years ago in ancient Egypt and among the inhabitants of the Indus Valley. It was later discovered in ancient China and India and later in Europe. Only at the end of the 19th century garlic was recognized by culinary chefs. Before that it was used in small doses in sauces because it was considered the food of poor farmers, because technically it is just a root that has been removed from the soil.

The nutritional values of garlic

Garlic is rich in an allicin compound that gives it its aroma and spiciness. Allicin is attributed healing properties against many diseases including atherosclerosis, bacterial infections, as well as the ability to dissolve fats and as an antioxidant. Apart from allicin, garlic also contains essential minerals such as sulfur, phosphorus and fluorine, as well as vitamins such as carotene (pro-vitamin A), vitamin B1, vitamin B3 and more.
All this richness turns garlic into a natural remedy. It is good against colds and infections and also reduces blood pressure and cholesterol. Even modern science attributes it antibiotic properties.
Despite all these benefits, one should be careful about overeating the garlic. Some people are allergic to garlic. Consumption of garlic supplements may increase the risk of bleeding and they may also impair the effectiveness of certain medications and create interactions with other medications.

Garlic in culture
In many cultures it is believed that garlic protects against the evil eye. Because of the strong smell of garlic apparently, enormous powers were attributed to it: in medieval and Renaissance Europe it was believed to ward off vampires, witches, werewolves, demons and all the sick evils that could be encountered. To this day some people hang garlic tubes on the door to ward off bad luck and bring good luck.
There is a folklore legend that says that garlic grew from the left footprint of the devil when he left heaven. In Greece, midwives would keep evil spirits away from babies born by placing garlic in their cribs and Roman soldiers would eat garlic to be filled with courage.
In dreams garlic symbolizes good luck and if in a dream one eats the garlic, it may be a sign of hidden secrets.
There are places where throughout the year there are festivals dedicated to garlic like in Canada, Turkey, Australia, Italy, UK, USA and more.

Gilroy, the garlic capital of the world

The town of Gilroy in California is considered the garlic capital of the world. If you really like garlic and want to taste everything that can be prepared with it, this is where you need to go. The town's garlic festival has hosted over three million visitors in its thirty years of existence. The festival offers games, crafts, competitions and various other activities, all around the theme of garlic. They even serve garlic ice cream there! Even out of season, there is plenty to do, including shopping for garlic-related gifts.

How to celebrate Garlic Day?

Some people add garlic to everything they cook every day. Some people like to eat the garlic fresh. If you want to join the garlic day celebrations, do not forget to add it to the sauce or stew you make, to salads (it is recommended to chop it), to sandwiches and more. Keep in mind that after eating people will move away from you a bit because of the odor from your mouth ...

If you have a cold or inflammation, add fresh garlic to your menu, it should help.

Take a picture of the food you prepare and upload it to social media with the hashtag #NationalGarlicDay.

April 19 is also Hanging Out Day

Hanging Out Day - April 19th

Laundry Hanging Day is a day designed to encourage people to hang their laundry outside, on a rope, instead of drying it in a dryer machine.
This day was initiated by a group from New Hampshire in the USA, called the "Laundry Project" (link) and its goal is to explain to people how much energy can be saved when drying clothes on a clothesline and not using a dryer.

According to the project's website, if you do not use a dryer machine, you save 6-10 percent of energy consumption per home.
The benefit of drying laundry in the fresh air is not only the saving of money, it also has a health benefit. Clothes that have dried in the fresh air are more ventilated and contain less bacteria than clothes that have been dried in the dryer.
The laundry day was officially initiated by the group in 1995.

Easter

Easter is a Christian holiday that marks the resurrection of Jesus, according to the Christian faith, on the third day after he was crucified and buried in Jerusalem. Easter is celebrated in all Christian churches, but on different dates. It is always celebrated Sunday of the week and always near the beginning of spring.

Holy Week, the last week of the 40 days of fasting, begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Sunday, which is Easter Day and the day Jesus is resurrected. In most European countries, unlike the United States, it is customary to extend Easter and celebrate for two days - Sunday and Monday of the week.
Easter is the holiest holiday in the Christian calendar (though a few tiny fringe streams, like the Quakers, do not indicate it). The holiday is recognized as a formal holiday in most Christian traditions, and apart from ceremonies in honor of Jesus' resurrection, ceremonies and games are celebrated in the spring.
